Asilah is charmingly unique, astonishingly tranquil, beautifully located and alluringly exotic. The day trip to Asilah from Tangier offers a great opportunity to escape the hassle and bustle you may encounter in Spain or Tangier and therefore enjoy the utmost tranquility this little gem of a town offers.
In the morning, your expert English speaking tour guide will meet you at the port of Tangier upon arrival or pick you up from your accommodation in Tangier. We will begin with a nice drive by the wild Atlantic coastline before embarking for a nice walking tour through the Kasbah and Medina of Asilah. The intact ramparts, which provided fortification and safe haven, were constructed by the Portuguese in the 15th century by the edge of the Atlantic Ocean offering picturesque and panoramic views. The actual foundations of the city can be traced back to 1500 BC, when a Phoenician Port called Zili was established on the site. The Medina’s white washed painted houses with blue and green shutters make it a remarkable spot for stretching one’s legs.
Our day trip to Asilah will include a visit the Palais Raisouli (depending on its opening days). The pirate Pasha Raisouli or Raisuni was a prominent Riffian Bandit, who became the governor over northwestern Morocco and known for his kidnappings and asking for ransoms to numerous wealthy foreigners including Ion Perdicaris and Walter Burton Harris.
Enjoy a nice fish or typically Moroccan lunch served at one of local restaurants before driving back to Tangier. Upon arrival, your tour guide will escort you to the port or will drop you off at your convenient location in Tangier.
